No seeing what Kuon felt, no reaction, nothing.

Finally, they know basically everything that the other has been keeping secret, and instead of following through we get a fade to black and nothing. The kiss is probably what breaks it for me though.

At least until he kisses her, and then the relationship hits all breaks because we can’t have an actual relationship upgrade because one of these two has to die at the end, though more on that later. Like nothing Haku does makes it seem like he cares for Kuon at all. So once Kuon learns the truth about the mask and the lie and they can actually be together as Haku and Kuon again, what does Haku do? Abandon her and sail to her home country. Until 60% of the way into the game, when other characters start shipping the two of them, I had no idea what would make anyone think the two of them where in love. The supporting harem all get equal or more screen time then her, and most of them make more sense for Haku anyway. He never asks any real questions about who she is or tries to get to know anything about her beyond what he already did. Throughout all of Truth, he shows no preference for Kuon.

The only scene in the entire series that actually makes me think Haku actually loves Kuon is the finally of Deception, where she’s walking away. Who is the one person you would think Haku would tell of his real identity? His actual guardian girl with whom he’s suppose to be in love with? Or the comedy relief male who’s in fine condition when he’s told? Yeah, Haku makes no fucking sense. Kuon’s obviously in love with him, but can’t say anything do to the stupid Haku is Oshtor lie that goes for most of the game. Honestly, I have a hard time believing in a romantic relationship between Haku and Kuon to start with. Are they even able to get together at that point in the story? No idea, they never fucking talk to each other about having a relationship. Do they confess? Haku does, kinda, but gets no response because of a fade to black. Kuon is the main heroine, I don’t think many could argue that, but do Haku and Kuon get in a relationship? No. So my first real issue going into this is how the romance is basically left to dry. My core issues with Mask of Truth revolve around Haku’s relationship with Kuon(aka the non romance bullshit between them), the pacing of the war, Haku himself as plot device man, and the ending that had to pay homage to Leaf’s garbage ending tropes. I won’t spoil the biggest surprises, but since I have to talk about romances and the ending to get my complaints straight, I have to spoil a few things. So this post is going to be me ranting about Mask of Truth and how it basically ruined the good setup Mask of Deception gave it. Then I read Truth, and I couldn’t not complain about it. Originally I intended to have Mask of Deception and Truth as the same post, and just not talk about any of the plot elements of Truth.
